The Denver Broncos promoted Rick Smith to assistant general manager.

Goodman
The Green Bay Packers hired George Koonce as director of player development and Bill Hawker as corporate sales manager. Koonce was special assistant to the athletic director at East Carolina University, and Hawker was corporate sales manager for the Chicago Bears.

Golf
The Chrysler Classic of Greensboro named Rob Goodman director of media relations. Goodman is founder and president of 3G Sports, which will direct media relations for the tournament.

Hockey
The Grand Rapids (Mich.) Griffins of the American Hockey League named Jennifer Nichols corporate sales account manager and Donna Boersma accounting assistant.

The Omaha (Neb.) Ak-Sar-Ben Knights of the American Hockey League hired Jim Kersten as vice president of sales and marketing. Kersten was executive director of sales for the Quad City (Ill.) Mallards of the United Hockey League.

The Pensacola (Fla.) Ice Pilots of the ECHL hired NoahJon Marshall as an account executive.

The Wichita Falls (Texas) Wildcats of the North American Hockey League hired Mike Distaso as an account executive.

Warrior Hockey promoted Neil Wensley to director of marketing.

Tom Hodgson stepped down from his position as president and chief executive officer of Magna Entertainment Corp.

Marketing
David Cope will be director of business development and sales for his newly formed DC Sports & Sponsorship Sales.

Nancy Mammana was named vice president of entertainment-marketing consultancy for Davie-Brown Entertainment’s New York office. Mammana was director, marketing partnerships for the NBA.

John Maroon left his position as vice president of communications for Ripken Baseball to start his own public relations firm, Maroon PR. Maroon hired Jen Bloomer, who was his assistant at Ripken Baseball, as an account executive.

LeadDog Marketing Group hired Elisa Padilla as director of marketing. Padilla was marketing manager for HBO Sports.

OnSport named Michelle Duff to its corporate consulting group. Duff worked for Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co.

Premier Partnerships hired John Alper to open Premier’s Central Region office in Dallas as vice president, central region operations. Alper was senior vice president for Pizza Hut Park and FC Dallas.

USM&P hired Barry McCabe as an account director. McCabe was vice president/account director for Fogarty Klein Monroe.

Backpacker magazine named Stephen Barr advertising director. Barr was general accounts director for Esquire magazine.

Red Zebra Broadcasting hired Lewis Schreck as vice president of sports and corporate sales. Schreck was vice president, sports for Infinity/CBS Radio.

NBX named Eric Blatt executive vice president, corporate development and business affairs; Raul Guisado executive vice president, media; John Linney executive vice president, product management; Chris Taylor executive vice president, marketing; and Hung Tran executive vice president, engineering.

Comcast SportsNet named Frank Petersen senior director of human resources for the family of regional sports networks and Erick Weber to the SportsNet Philadelphia on-air team. Petersen was senior director of human resources for the network’s parent company, Comcast Corp., and Weber was a sports anchor/reporter in Milwaukee.

Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic named George Longwell vice president of sales. Longwell was vice president of group sales at ESPN-ABC Radio.

Fox Interactive Media named Mark Jung chief operating officer and Jim Heckman chief strategy officer. Jung was chief executive officer of IGN, and Heckman was the founder and chief executive officer of Scout.com.

Abbott
Ketchum Sports Network hired Shawn McBride as vice president and Shannon O’Malley as an account associate. McBride oversaw marketing communications at Octagon, and O’Malley was a junior associate at Rubenstein Public Relations.

Motorsports
Scott Griffin Motorsports named Lance Larsen a full-time adviser to team crew chief Keith Stewart. Larsen was associate crew chief on Clay Millican’s Werner Enterprises Top Fuel team.

Red Bull Racing technical chief Gunther Steiner is leaving F1 to join the new Red Bull Toyota NASCAR team.

MLS promoted Mark Abbott to president.

Schutt Sports named Eric Ashleman chief operations officer and president. Ashleman was president of Joslyn Hi-Voltage Corp.
