Tournament Tracking Online: “What Was That, Dear?”

How much time and effort do fans spend following the NCAA men’s basketball tournament online? According to recent polling by Internet marketing and research firm Questus:

40.3%: Spent more time following the tournament online this year than in 2005.
31.4%: Spend more time online during the tournament than at most other times.
27.4%: Pay more attention to scores online and via cell phone than to their significant others.
25.7%: Have work take a back seat to following the tournament online.

Note: Results from a base of 494 respondents from Questus’ Sports Research Panel who identified themselves as following the tournament. The sample group, polled online March 24-30, generally reflects in its composition the online U.S. population.
