Nielsen weekly sports ranking

FOR THE WEEK OF 3/13/06 - 3/19/06

HOOPS HEAVEN : Each of CBS’s six NCAA basketball games that aired primarily in prime time March 16-19 was among television’s 50 most-watched shows for the week. The games on two of those nights, however, drew fewer viewers than the network’s usual programming in the comparable time slots. Thursday night’s games averaged 7.1 million households, half of what the network’s regular lineup draws on Thursdays, and Friday’s 6.6 million households were about 15 percent fewer than usual for that night.

WBC POWERS ESPN : The average number of households watching ESPN programming during the week increased 16.6 percent over the same week last year, fueled by coverage of the inaugural World Baseball Classic. ESPN’s 12 total WBC telecasts averaged 1.1 million households, nearly double the network’s usual spring training audience, with the final U.S. game of the tournament, against Mexico on March 16, averaging 1.9 million households.
