ESPN plugs NBA coverage ESPN kicks off its NBA coverage this month with a multimedia marketing campaign tagged “This is why we watch.” The campaign, created by Wieden & Kennedy, New York, includes TV spots on all ESPN networks, ESPN Motion, ESPN360 and NBA TV. The 15- and 30-second spots are broken into four categories: “Big Man,” “Finishers,” “The Season” and “Desire.”
NASCAR will limit teams
NASCAR will soon announce policies aimed at limiting the number of teams a Nextel Cup car owner can have. NASCAR CEO Brian France said the move is intended to keep smaller teams in the sport and to allow new teams to come in and be able to compete. He said the policy will have a phase-in period.
New logo for championship
The PGA Tour has unveiled a new logo for The Players Championship that incorporates elements of the familiar logo of the PGA Tour and the tournament’s logo, in order to strengthen the connection between the two. The Tour is also planning a $26 million renovation of the TPC at Sawgrass Stadium Course and its clubhouse.
Patriots offer TV content
“Patriots On Demand” has launched in conjunction with Comcast and NFL Network, the Boston Globe reports. The additional content is available to Comcast digital subscribers and includes daily “Patriots Video News,” locker room interviews, news conferences and weekly programs.
SI tries to kill settlement
Time Inc., the parent company of Sports Illustrated, settled a libel lawsuit filed by former University of Alabama and current University of Texas-El Paso football coach Mike Price, but almost immediately asked a federal judge to dissolve the settlement. Time argues that Price and his lawyer breached a confidentiality agreement by discussing the settlement with reporters.
