Nielsen Weekly Sports Ranking

For the week of 9/12/05-9/18/05
ABC RANKS NO. 1 WITH ‘MNF’: ABC’s season premiere of “Monday Night Football,” airing this year on Sept. 12, was the week’s most-watched television show for the eighth time in the past 10 years. More than 14 million households watched the Philadelphia-Atlanta matchup, up 4.7 percent over last year’s opener. ABC also aired the week’s least-watched network sporting event: Game 3 of the WNBA Finals, which drew 715,000 households on Sept. 18.
ESPN PASSES TNT: ESPN was the most-watched cable network of the week for the first time this year, knocking TNT from the top spot. The net’s Saturday prime-time college football coverage (Florida State-Boston College) trailed only USA Network’s “Law & Order: SVU” for household viewership among the week’s programs. Its Thursday night game coverage (Utah-TCU) was up 18.3 percent from its only prior Thursday game of the year.
