Nielsen Weekly Sports Ranking

FOX SCORES WITH MLB: For the second year in a row, week four of Fox’s Saturday baseball coverage featured three regional interleague games. This year’s offerings drew an average of 3.2 million households, up 47.6 percent over 2004. Fox’s season-to-date average audience of 3.69 million weekly viewers is the second-highest in the network’s 10 years as an MLB broadcast rights holder, trailing only a 3.85 million mark posted in 2003.
RATINGS MATCH THE HYPE: More than 1.77 million households watched ESPN’s coverage of the Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs in their first meeting since 1918 in a game that counted. That’s up 31.9 percent over the network’s Boston-Los Angeles interleague game on the comparable Sunday last year. The game trailed only coverage related to the NBA ‘s Eastern Conference Finals Game 7 among top-rated cable sports shows for the week.
