Pope
The New Jersey Nets named Petra Pope senior director of entertainment marketing. Pope was director of entertainment marketing for the New York Knicks.

Lee Douglas, senior vice president of the Atlanta Hawks’ ownership group, Atlanta Spirit, is leaving the Hawks after 27 years.

The New Orleans Hornets hired Flavil Hampsten as group sales manager. Hampsten was a premium seating sales executive with Comcast-Spectacor.

The National Basketball Development League named Mike Berry chief operating officer of the new franchises in Albuquerque, N.M.; Tulsa, Okla.; Fort Worth, Texas; and Austin, Texas, and president of NBDL Austin. Also named franchise presidents were Billy Widner (Albuquerque), Todd Speer (Fort Worth) and Joe Berry (Tulsa).

Prettyman
Indiana State University named Ron Prettyman director of intercollegiate athletics. Prettyman was athletic director at California State University-Dominguez Hills.

Pine
The Army Athletic Association hired Nathan Pine as associate athletic director for external affairs and promoted Mike Pirolo to associate director for marketing, sales and broadcasting.

The University of South Florida named Brett Huebner assistant athletic director for business operations and human resources.

Facilities

Lucas
The Charlotte Bobcats named Brandon Lucas director of marketing for the new Charlotte arena. Lucas was a senior vice president for Clear Channel Entertainment Music.

Global Spectrum hired Scott Norton as director of sales and marketing at the Arizona Cardinals’ new stadium. Norton was director of sales and marketing at the Rabobank Arena, Theater and Convention Center in Bakersfield, Calif. Melissa Wasson was named director of finance and administration for the stadium.

Newton
Centerplate Inc. named Roger Newton executive director of the Bi-Lo Center in Greenville, S.C.

Infineon Raceway promoted Rachal Pollen to marketing manager and named Bob Richards manager of vendor displays and corporate sales and Lindsey Murillo sales and marketing coordinator. Richards was a consultant for High Speed Sports and Entertainment, and Murillo was a management assistant at marketing company EdVenture Partners.

Mullison
Atlanta Motor Speedway promoted Dave Mullison to director of advertising and promotion. He will continue his role as marketing communication manager.

Palace Sports and Entertainment named Brian Biondo advertising/marketing coordinator.

Football
The Seattle Seahawks promoted Ryan Barefoot to suite and premium seat specialist from customer sales representative.

The San Francisco 49ers hired Michael Williams as director of marketing. Williams was director of sales and marketing for the Anaheim Mighty Ducks.

Hockey
The Phoenix Roadrunners of the ECHL named Ray Delia chief operating officer. Delia was general manager and governor of the Reading (Pa.) Royals.

Rubinstein
Ed Rubinstein was named operations manager for the ECHL’s Greenville (S.C.) Grrrowl.

Wade Leaphart was promoted to director of sales from senior account executive by the ECHL’s Fresno (Calif.) Falcons.

Horse Racing
Churchill Downs hired David Lang as director of admissions. Lang was director of admissions at Gulfstream Park.

Law
Former Clifford Chance senior associate Simon Thorpe and former IMG attorneys Oliver Hunt and Jamie Singer formed Onside Law, a sports, fashion and entertainment law firm.

Marketing
ISP Sports named Steve Walsh assistant general manager for its Vanderbilt University partnership. Walsh was director of marketing at Tulane University.

Denyes
Phil Denyes was named managing director, partnership marketing for sports entertainment group Bronskill & Co.

SportsMark Management Group promoted Sari Shapiro to vice president, Olympic operations from director, Olympic operations.

Bret Polvorosa joined Sports Management Worldwide to help facilitate its sports revenue management course.

Forge Sponsorship Consulting hired Joe Amdor as vice president, event marketing and Jason Flowers as project manager.

North American Midway Entertainment hired Charlotte Allison as vice president. Allison was vice president, event sales and marketing for the Memphis Grizzlies.

Viacom Sports hired Cullen Maxey as general manager and Stacie Nelson as manager of client services of Sun Devil Sports Marketing. Maxey was vice president of corporate sales for the Phoenix Coyotes, and Nelson was sponsor services representative for the Coyotes.

The Golf Channel hired Christopher Swan to the newly created position of managing director of affiliate relations.

NBC Sports hired Alana Russo as manager, communications. Russo was manager, communications at MSNBC.

AOL Sports promoted Ross Schaufelberger to general manager from director of sports programming development.

Former U.S. soccer team member Brandi Chastain joined ESPN2 and ABC as a sideline reporter for Major League Soccer broadcasts.

ESPN promoted Peter Rosenberger to vice president of special events marketing from director of special events marketing.

Backpacker magazine named Jeff Gropper advertising director. Gropper was account director for Men’s Health and Best Life.

Runner’s World promoted Susan Hartman to associate publisher/marketing from marketing director and Angus Macaulay to associate publisher/advertising from advertising director.
