News in brief from The Sports Business Daily

NFL ad sales strong
Fox, CBS, ABC and ESPN have each sold 85 to 90 percent of their NFL ad inventory for the upcoming season, Mediaweek reported. Advertisers are paying $325,000-$350,000 for 30-second spots on “Monday Night Football” and $100,000-$190,000 on ESPN’s Sunday night games. CBS and Fox are selling 30-second spots on Sunday for $250,000-$300,000.

Net to show Kings games
Comcast last week announced formation of a new regional sports network in central California and a 10-year rights deal with the Sacramento Kings. Comcast will televise 58 pre- and regular-season games on the new net, which will be launched to 700,000 Comcast customers before the first regular-season Kings game on Nov. 2. The net also will carry select WNBA Monarchs games and other sports-related content.

L.A. Angels?
MLB Commissioner Bud Selig confirmed that he and Anaheim Angels owner Arte Moreno have discussed the possibility of renaming the team the Los Angeles Angels. The Los Angeles Times reported that Moreno would need approval from the city of Anaheim, because the stadium lease requires the team to be called the Anaheim Angels. Council members have vowed to veto such a change.

Owners seeking change
Some MLB owners are pushing the sport’s senior executives to scrap the current relocation process for the Montreal Expos because they want the team to be sold to the highest bidder, according to the Washington Times. The new owners then would be responsible for determining the Expos’ home and finishing negotiations on a ballpark.
