News in brief from the Sports Business Daily

The Real world
The Washington Post reported that Real Madrid has tentatively agreed to play a team of MLS players in the league’s All-Star Game at Gillette Stadium this season. The game will likely be played on July 31, a week later than MLS had planned. ABC will reportedly still broadcast the game despite the shift.

No sure bet
The Las Vegas Review Journal cited an MLB source as saying that a bid to relocate the Montreal Expos to Las Vegas is a long shot. While MLB Commissioner Bud Selig recently called the city a “serious candidate” for the franchise, the source cited statistical data questioning the viability and diversity of the market and said, “There’s little to no chance that Las Vegas would get the team. It’s just not going to happen.”

Bodenheimer gets new role
ESPN/ABC Sports President George Bodenheimer and ABC

Bodenheimer will keep sports focus.
Cable Networks Group and Disney Channel Worldwide President Anne Sweeney were named co-chairs of Walt Disney’s newly created Media Networks division. The new unit was announced last week as part of a larger reorganization at the network. Despite the promotion, Bodenheimer will also continue in his current role and focus on the networks’ sports programming.

Elliman retires from KSE
Kroenke Sports Enterprises President Don Elliman retired last week, but the Rocky Mountain News reported that he will remain with KSE as a consultant to help the company launch its Altitude Sports & Entertainment regional sports network. Elliman was with KSE for the last four years and before that spent 32 years with Time Inc., where his titles included president of Sports Illustrated.
