Gallas resigns as Sox VP, may stay to consult

The Chicago White Sox’s senior vice president of marketing and broadcasting, Rob Gallas, resigned last week after 15 years with the club.

Gallas
Gallas said the completion of the White Sox’s 2004 marketing plan and his need to slow down made this the right time for the decision.

“It’s a grind-it-out sort of job and it can chew you up,” said Gallas, 53. “I just had to take a step back, as tough as it was to do.”

Gallas, during his tenure with the club, oversaw a change in the White Sox’s uniform and colors and developed such promotions as Turn Back the Clock Day and Elvis Night. He said he has not decided what he will do next, but that White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf had broached the possibility of consulting for the club.

“[Reinsdorf] gave me a chance to have such an impact on my boyhood team,” said Gallas, who’s originally from Chicago. “So anything Jerry wants, Jerry will get from me. My loyalty to the organization is still there.”

Gallas will remain with the White Sox for several weeks while the club searches for a replacement.
