Nielsen Weekly Sports Ranking

NO SOPHOMORE SLUMP: About 1.94 million households watched Virginia beat Pittsburgh in the second-year Continental Tire Bowl, the largest bowl game audience in ESPN2’s history. The audience marked a 13.9 percent increase over the 1.7 million households that watched last year’s Virginia-West Virginia matchup, also on ESPN2. The net’s previous record audience of 1.93 million households came Dec. 18, 2002, when Marshall beat Louisville in the GMAC Bowl.
