AOL Sports has Super role for Firestone

AOL Sports will have veteran sports broadcaster and talk-show host Roy Firestone conduct exclusive interviews with athletes, coaches and other celebrities as part of the site's Super Bowl coverage, according to AOL Sports executives.

Firestone
Firestone this week will secure two or three players from each of the final four NFL teams competing for this year's Super Bowl. After the two Super Bowl teams are determined on Sunday, Firestone will conduct interviews with the players from those two teams, as well as other players, coaches and celebrities he hopes to line up. Those interviews will air in five- to six-minute segments on AOL Sports in the days leading up to the game.

Carlos Silva, senior vice president of news and sports for AOL programming, said AOL executives decided to make Firestone a major part of their Super Bowl coverage after recent Firestone interviews were well-received by AOL for Broadband members.

"To really be a topical, news-gathering organization, we had to have Roy to round that out," said Silva, who would not disclose the terms of Firestone's contract.

Firestone, the longtime host of ESPN's "Up Close," said of the possible Super Bowl participants, the Philadelphia Eagles, Green Bay Packers and Indianapolis Colts offer intriguing subjects.

"I root for the most interesting people," he said.
