MARKETING AND LICENSING DEALS

Marriott Vacation Club International, the vacation ownership division of Marriott International Inc., appointed baseball hall of famer Dave Winfield as company ambassador. Winfield will promote the vacation ownership brands of The Ritz-Carlton Club and Marriott Vacation Club.

Marketing and consulting firm TSE Sports & Entertainment was retained by Pepsi-Cola to design and execute Pepsi's "Bring an Athlete to School" sweepstakes. The sweepstakes, which runs Sept. 8 until Oct. 5 and is focused in the Mid-Atlantic region, features an in-school pep talk and educational speech by Brian Mitchell of the Philadelphia Eagles as its grand prize.

The Northeast Dodge Dealers are offering a regional online sweepstakes that will leverage Dodge's NASCAR affiliation. Developed by TSE Sports & Entertainment, the "Choose Your NASCAR Race" sweepstakes is running until Aug. 10 and is designed to help the region's dealers build showroom traffic and increase sales.

Marc Little Sports Marketing signed Tallahassee, Fla.-based Breakdown Inc., the parent company of break-down.com, Breakdown Magazine and Breakdown The Television Show and promoters of The Bright Futures Shootout, a high school basketball tournament in Tallahassee. Marc Little will manage media relations, business-to-business marketing, sponsorship solicitation and event management for Breakdown, which focuses on promoting high school basketball.

The East Coast Hockey League's jersey program has been revised for the 2002-03 and 2003-04 seasons to include Jersey Express, OT Sports and SP Apparel. Each manufacturer receives on-ice representation and has the right to produce authentic, replica and third jerseys for their respective ECHL teams to be sold in arenas and at retail.

SPONSORSHIPS

Busch beer signed a multiyear sponsorship deal to become the official beer of B.A.S.S., a fishing organization. The deal also makes Busch the presenting sponsor of the 2003 Citgo Bassmasters Classic, the Citgo Bassmaster Tournament Trail, the 2003 Citgo B.A.S.S. Federation Championship and a weekly TV show on ESPN2.

Eurosport and its online outlet, soccer.com, have been selected the official electronic and direct mail retailer of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Through the deal, Eurosport will offer a line of Adidas apparel bearing the association's logo. Adidas is an official sponsor and supplier for the association.

Holiday Inn Hotels and Holiday Inn Express Hotels of Wisconsin joined the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference corporate partner program for the 2002-03 academic year. The partnership provides each of the nine conference institutions with special room rates and incentives for team travel. In return, the 27 participating Holiday Inn properties in Wisconsin will receive numerous advertising and promotional opportunities through the conference and its member institutions.

Callaway Golf Co. and the PGA of America formed a multiyear sponsorship program that will touch virtually all stages of PGA membership, from supporting senior professional and junior national championships, to partnerships in the PGA Learning Center and Golf Retirement Plus, and teaming to develop new education and competitive programs for PGA professionals.

Donruss Playoff is the official badge sponsor of the 23rd National Sports Collectors Convention. Donruss Playoff has announced that each badge will be an immediately scarce collectible, as no more than 20 of any individual card will appear on badges.

A deal was reached extending the East Coast Hockey League's marketing partnership with Arlington Capital Mortgage Corp. through the 2003-04 season. Arlington Capital will continue to receive leaguewide exposure as the official lender of the ECHL through league media, signs, promotional materials and the official Web site of the ECHL. Arlington Capital will continue to offer an ECHL Mortgage Rate to fans in league markets.

Paul Sheehy, president of Littleton, Colo.-based ProStar sports agency, has signed recently released San Francisco 49ers kicker Jamie Rheem as a new client of the firm.

Lindsay Lee-Waters, 1995 WTA Tour Most Impressive Newcomer, and ranked No. 36 in 1996, entered a representation agreement with Miami-based 360 Management for full representation. Lee-Waters is returning to tennis after pregnancy. Morgan Menahem of 360 Management will represent her.

TELEVISION

Fox Sports World and Fox Sports World Español entered into a deal with Inter/Forever Sports Inc. for the U.S. broadcast rights of the Women's Gold Cup 2002 tournament. The networks will telecast the 16-game event starting Oct. 27, live and exclusive, from venues in the United States and Canada.

INTERNET

Portland Family Entertainment, parent company of the Portland Beavers baseball club, Portland Timbers soccer club and engineering and Web development firm Bonzi Development Group, launched an online store, group tickets sales, and registration for camps and clinics.

Mountain biking site Tredhed.com launched. The Web site provides information on trails, races, news, tips and tricks in Florida's mountain biking community.

Canisius College's athletic department entered into a corporate partnership with Wolfwired, a company that sells sports action photos on the Internet. Wolfwired will provide Canisius with sports images for its publications, including media guides, game programs and its Web site. Fans will be able to buy prints of those images at wolfwired.com.

The East Coast Hockey League announced that its board of governors has approved a transfer of controlling interest for the Louisiana IceGators from Entertainment Venture Associates LLC to Orlando Predators Entertainment Inc. Predators Entertainment is a publicly traded sports entertainment company that owns and operates the Orlando Predators of the Arena Football League and the Peoria (Ill.) Pirates of Arena Football 2. It also owns and will operate AF2 teams in Lafayette, La., and Green Bay, both scheduled to begin play in 2003.

Golfpodium.com introduced the Executive Seminar Series, designed to sharpen the skills of executives and top sales producers on and off the course. The customized one- or two-day program features three major components; motivation, golf and business and golf instruction. Golfpodium.com will coordinate golf competitions, team-building exercises, awards ceremonies or other programs in conjunction with the series.

During a kickoff event June 27 to launch the newly created Greater Columbus Sports Commission, the Columbus Blue Jackets' arrival in the city was recognized as the top moment in Columbus sports history as voted by the public.

The East Coast Hockey League, in association with CCM, announced that the Columbia (S.C.) Inferno, the Johnstown (Pa.) Chiefs and the Richmond (Va.) Renegades have been selected as the inaugural winners of the CCM Community Assist Program. The program was developed to support the grassroots efforts and to help further develop youth hockey organizations in league markets.


CHARITY NEWS

Miami Heat center Alonzo Mourning and Rumi hosted a VIP kickoff party in Miami Beach as the annual Zo's Summer Groove weekend began. A series of events raised money to benefit the Children's Home Society of Florida, 100 Black Men of South Florida and the new Overtown Youth Center.

The Houston Texans and Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council announced the honorary chairmanship of Robert and Janice McNair of the San Jacinto Council's $12 million capital and endowment campaign July 23 at Reliant Stadium. The McNairs announced their pledge of $1 million to the campaign.

Race Fans for a Cure raised $4,002.62 at the Kentucky Speedway to push its season total to $52,249.25, surpassing the total of $51,458.93 donated by fans during 2001. All proceeds go directly to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

Tennis stars past and present came together the week of July 15 in a Pete Sampras-Andy Roddick exhibition match and the Adidas Tennis Smash to help raise nearly $200,000 for the Tim & Tom Gullikson Foundation, which assists brain-tumor patients and their families.

The first Arby's Charity Tour Salt Lake City raised $75,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Utah and the Arby's Foundation through a golf tournament and auction. U.S. bobsled team member Ivan Radcliff took part in the Arby's Charity Tour Salt Lake City by helping to raise awareness for BBBS of Utah through community appearances.

ARCA Re/Max Series rookie and Mount Juliet, Tenn., resident Chase Montgomery will play host for a fund-raiser at the Nashville Ronald McDonald House on Aug. 7. The fund-raiser will include a barbecue donated by Whitt's, served by the No. 27 Montgomery Motorsports crew, door prizes, a show car and an autograph signing with other ARCA drivers, including Frank Kimmel, Shelby Howard and Jason Jarrett.
