Texans cover mental health

Houston Texans owner Bob McNair has bought a medical insurance plan that includes full coverage for mental health ailments for the staff of the NFL's newest team, saying it makes good business sense and is the right thing to do.

"Some companies cover mental health on a limited basis or have no coverage at all," McNair said. "We are just covering mental illness like we would any other illness."

McNair said that providing full coverage cuts down on absenteeism and makes for healthier, more productive workers.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said the league office and at least half of the NFL teams offer some form of mental health insurance for staff members.

McNair said Philip Burguieres, Texans vice chairman and chairman of the Mental Health Association of Greater Houston, brought the idea of providing full coverage to his attention.
