Eagles score $150K in online retail rush

About 80 percent of the orders at

East Champions-branded caps and T-shirts.

The NFC East champion Philadelphia Eagles have generated about $150,000 from online orders for Eagles merchandise since Dec. 30, when the team clinched the division title.

About 80 percent of the orders, via the club's Web site (philadelphiaeagles.com), have been for 2001 NFC East Champions-branded caps and T-shirts, said Steve Strawbridge, the Eagles' director of merchandising. As of early last week, the team had received almost 3,000 online orders for Eagles merchandise since Dec. 30, Strawbridge said.

After defeating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in an NFC wild-card playoff matchup Jan. 12, the Eagles faced the Chicago Bears in a divisional playoff game last Saturday.

The Eagles' online-merchandise revenue emanating from this season's playoffs is far ahead of that from the team's playoff run last season, when the Eagles snagged about 400 orders online and about $20,000. Last year Philadelphia finished second in the NFC East and beat Tampa Bay in a wild-card game before losing to the NFC East champion New York Giants in the divisional round.

All the revenue derived from the online merchandise goes to the Eagles, whose merchandise department handles orders and shipping.

"The entire organization has made our Web site a big priority in our daily endeavors," said Len Komoroski, the Eagles' senior vice president of business operations.

This season's Eagles playoff run also has enticed the team's fans, in record numbers, to visit philadelphiaeagles.com. From Jan. 1 to Jan. 15, the Web site had more than 700,000 unique visitors and 3.7 million page views, said Dave Spadaro, the Eagles' director of Internet development.

Comparing the numbers with those at other peak times for the site, Spadaro said there were 546,578 unique visitors and 2.6 million page views from Sept. 1-15; 541,971 unique visitors and 2.7 million page views from Aug. 1-15; and 765,226 unique visitors and 3.4 million page views from April 1-30.
