The Denver Metropolitan Stadium District has approved the disbursement of more than $11 million in excess revenue to municipalities and counties in the district.
The excess is available because the bonds issued to build Coors Field were retired last year, a decade ahead of schedule.
Ray Baker, district board chairman, said the funds that will be disbursed primarily consist of sales tax revenue that was required by state law to be collected through the end of last year, even though the bonds previously had been retired.
The disbursement also includes $957,128 paid by the Colorado Rockies — the specified portion of their attendance, parking and restaurant revenue for the 2000 season.
Previous Rockies payments from earlier seasons, a total of $4,372,831, were applied to the early retirement of the Coors Field bonds.
The excess tax revenue and payments from the Rockies for last year will be disbursed to cities and counties according to the same percentage those entities generated sales tax payments.
The district will maintain a $1.25 million contingency fund, Baker said.
