New A-League Club Western Melbourne Group's Stadium Plans Still Uncertain

New A-League addition Western Melbourne Group is "no closer to a deal" on where to play its home games from October, according to the AAP. Kardinia Park CEO Michael Brown warned the "ambitious" franchise it is "unlikely to be able to accommodate" all of its home fixtures next season. Western Melbourne was granted entry into the '19-20 competition. The group's proposal was to play matches at Geelong Stadium while building a club-owned facility at Tarneit, but a deal is "yet to be done, largely because of unknowns around next year's A-League fixture with the addition of an 11th team." Brown said that he was "eager" to see finalized plans from the club and Football Federation Australia. Brown: "There is no agreement. There is an interim discussion." The club is not "concerned by the lack of a deal," and is currently exploring other venues in the region that "may be interested and have the capacity to host matches" (AAP, 1/31).
