Marketplace Roundup: Asics To Recycle Clothing Into Olympic Uniforms

Apparel brand Asics on Thursday began calling for donations of used sportswear items which it "plans to turn into official uniforms for Japan's team" at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games. The Japanese company, which will provide apparel for athletes in competitions and at medal ceremonies, will "extract polyester fibers from the collected items and turn them into fabric for clothing and footwear" (KYODO, 1/24).

Adidas partnered with Japanese streetwear brand A Bathing Ape (BAPE) for a limited-edition capsule collection that applies BAPE's design language to a range of adidas football cleats, footwear, apparel, equipment and accessories (adidas).

Chinese Super League side Shanghai SIPG partnered with Vici Gaming esports club. The partnership will see the two parties collaborate around the King of Glory esports game (YUTANG SPORTS, 1/24).

Ligue 2 side Auxerre renewed its partnership with academic tutoring company Acadomia. The partnership now runs through ’24. Acadomia remains the naming sponsor of the club’s academy, and will continue tutoring youth players through a joint program (Auxerre).

Betway is continuing its efforts to activate in esports with a two-year sponsorship agreement with German organization Berlin Int'l Gaming. Betway "will have rights to put branding on the front and sleeve" of the B.I.G. team jerseys, and the online gambling company will be allowed to use B.I.G. players to create branded content (THE ESPORTS OBSERVER, 1/24).
