Names In The News: Warrant Issued To Obtain Cristiano Ronaldo's DNA

Authorities in Las Vegas issued a warrant to "obtain the DNA" of CRISTIANO RONALDO "to see if it matches that found on a dress of a woman who has accused him of rape," according to a law-enforcement official with knowledge of the case. The authorities "sent the warrant recently to the court system in Italy," where Ronaldo plays for Juventus. Las Vegas police reopened the case in the fall after the woman, KATHRYN MAYORGA, filed a lawsuit alleging that Ronaldo raped her in '09 in Las Vegas. An attorney for Mayorga and a Las Vegas police spokesperson did not "respond to requests for comment" (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 1/10). ... Everything "points to CARLOS QUEIROZ becoming the new coach" of the Colombian men's national football team. While there were rumors of LUIZ FELIPE SCOLARI "possibly taking over the vacancy," the Colombian FA has reportedly struck a deal with Queiroz (MARCA, 1/9). ... Thirteen-year-old LEIGHTON BENNETT became the youngest-ever winner of the British Darts Organization World Youth Championship when he beat Scotland's NATHAN GIRVAN. Bennett beat his 16-year-old opponent 3-0 in the final (BBC, 1/10). ... Chinese hurdler WU SHUIJIAO was banned for four years because of doping. The 2014 Asian Games champion tested positive for banned substance norandrosterone in an out-of-competition test last June. Her coach, DAI JIANHUA, was also banned for two years and fined 20,000 yuan ($3,000) (SOUTH CHINA MORNING POST, 1/9).
