Names In The News: Cardiff City's Craig Bellamy Steps Down Temporarily

CRAIG BELLAMY "temporarily stepped down" from his role as EPL side Cardiff City U18 coach following the club's decision to "investigate a bullying claim against him." The investigation follows reports of a complaint about the former Wales striker's alleged treatment of a young player, who has since left the club. Bellamy, 39, denied the allegations (BBC, 1/3). ... PADRAIG HARRINGTON is due to be unveiled as Europe's Ryder Cup captain on Tuesday, taking over from THOMAS BJORN for next year's match in Whistling Straits. The "rubber-stamping" of Harrington's candidature by a panel including Bjorn and the previous two captains, DARREN CLARKE and PAUL MCGINLEY, will "hardly come as a surprise" (London TELEGRAPH, 1/3). ... National Rugby League side Wests Tigers forward MICHAEL CHEE KAM will appear in court on a charge of assaulting an Uber driver. The 26-year-old Samoa int'l was "one of two men who are alleged to have punched a ride-share driver through his window during a night out on the weekend" (STUFF, 1/3). ... Former Brazilian footballer RONALDINHO was prohibited by a Brazilian court from traveling to the UAE, where he was scheduled to appear at the 13th Int’l Sports Conference in Dubai. A Brazilian judge decided to withdraw Ronaldinho’s passport, as well as his brother’s, for their failure to pay a €2M fine from ’15 (AS, 1/3).
