Media Notes: PCCW Lands Hong Kong Rights To Premier League

PCCW Media secured the exclusive Premier League broadcast rights in Hong Kong for the '19-20 to '21-22 seasons. Now TV will remain the exclusive licensed broadcaster in Hong Kong, delivering live coverage of all 380 matches. A total of 76 matches per season will be delivered in 4K through the Now One set-top box (ADVANCED TELEVISION, 1/3).

I-League club owners, the All-India Football Federation and the league broadcaster agreed to livestream the games which are not being televised. The matches will be streamed on Star India’s OTT platform, Hotstar, and JioTV. The AIFF will reportedly "bear the production cost for the live streaming." The Aizawl-Indian Arrows game on Friday will be the first one to be streamed live (INSIDE SPORT, 1/3).

Indian broadcaster Star Sports unveiled Star Sports 1 Kannada as the nation's "first dedicated Kannada Sports Channel." Star Sports' intention is to "offer a complete sports viewing experience to the different local language speaking fans" across the nation. The southern state of Karnataka "has shown distinctive viewing habits and immense affinity for the differentiated language content" (SPORTZ BUSINESS, 1/2).
