UEFA Investigator Confirms Man City Could Face CL Ban

UEFA's chief financial investigator confirmed Man City "could face a Champions League ban" over the alleged £60M payments deception revealed during the Football Leaks scandal, according to Tom Morgan of the London TELEGRAPH. UEFA Club Financial Control Body Chair & Chief Investigator Yves Leterme went on record to confirm that the club faces "the heaviest punishment" if the allegations are proven. Senior UEFA officials -- who previously launched sanctions against Man City in '14 -- are "particularly enraged" by leaked files from '15, which claim almost £60M was paid directly into the club by its billionaire Arab owners but declared as sponsorship. Leterme said, "If it is true what has been written, there might be a serious problem. This can lead to the heaviest punishment: exclusion from the UEFA competitions." The revelation is "particularly bad timing" for Man City, coming just hours before the club's 2-1 win over EPL leader Liverpool. According to a report in German magazine Der Spiegel in November, Man City breached FFP rules by €188M in '14. Man City Owner Sheikh Mansour was accused of funding "significant parts of so-called deals" with club sponsors in an attempt to escape UEFA scandals (TELEGRAPH, 1/3).
