Swiss Ramble Reveals Arsenal Owner Has Not Invested In The Club

Arsenal Owner Stan Kroenke has "never been a popular figure" among the club's fans, with "most believing" the American billionaire's only interest "is to make as much money out of the club as possible," according to Charles Watts of FOOTBALL LONDON. A study conducted by football finance expert Swiss Ramble has "shown the vast difference" between how much money owners of the Premier League's top sides have put into their clubs since '08. Man City, backed by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has "benefited most from owner financing" -- with a "staggering" £1.275B ($1.6B) being injected into the club. That is "way higher" than the second-highest, Chelsea, which has had £520M ($657M) invested by Roman Abramovich. Arsenal, meanwhile, is "one of just two clubs" that have "not had a single penny of owner financing over the past decade," along with Middlesbrough. In that time, Arsenal has spent £754M ($952M), "all of which has come from club operations." Arsenal Managing Dir Vinai Venkatesham confirmed that the club "would continue to work to a self-sustaining model." He said, "We have a self-sustaining business model at this club. That means all the investments we make on the pitch are funded by the revenues we generate off the pitch" (FOOTBALL LONDON, 1/3).
