Brasileiro Side Corinthians Signs AI Tech Deal With IBM

IBM inked a new artificial intelligence technology deal with Brasileiro club Corinthians. IBM will increase technology at Corinthians Arena, upgrade a 117,000-member fan loyalty program and use AI systems including GPS and RFID sensors and video cameras to track and analyze player movements and injuries during games. The IBM deal with the São Paolo-based team is for 10 years. Stadium upgrades include the installation of 2,000 security monitors as well as new access control, sound, ticketing and data center systems. IBM will bring its virtual assistant Watson technology to a Corinthians team app which will also have a rewards credit card. The team hopes that will help it expand sponsorships and partnerships with retailers, gas stations and grocery stores. "Corinthians is leveraging artificial intelligence to redefine the way we will experience soccer through its digital reinvention," IBM Brazil GM Antonio Martins said in a statement. "The club has been pioneering and innovating to improve the experience, comfort, connectivity, engagement and communication of its fans in the games, in addition to expanding its opportunities of business and partnerships."
