Football Notes: Bomb Threat Forces Evacuation Of Boca Juniors' Stadium

Boca Juniors fans "were out in numbers" to wave the Copa Libertadores finalist off to Madrid "after a bomb threat, which proved to be false, caused their stadium to be evacuated." Police squads with dogs "were seen making checks at La Bombonera and bomb experts were called before it was confirmed that there was no threat." It is the third time this year that La Bombonera "has had to be evacuated due to a bomb threat" (ESPN.com, 12/5).

Liga MX side Chivas Guadalajara and Dutch club PSV Eindhoven "will work together to develop commercial and football knowledge." PSV Eindhoven Commercial Dir Frans Janssen said that "the club's popularity in Latin America has grown, which is why it wants to develop commercially" in the market. Janssen: "We will decide in the short term how we face these challenges, but one thing is sure: there will be an auxiliary branch of PSV in Mexico" (NOTIMEX, 12/4).

La Liga side Espanyol "will continue to count on the support of its majority shareholder," club President Chen Yansheng, who on Wednesday assured that he "has no intention of selling his stake in the club" after investing more than €80M ($91M) since '16. Yansheng said that "it is true that we may need a further injection of capital, which could could come from me or from other strategic partners." He added, "We are speaking of a capital increase, not of the sale of the club" (PALCO23, 12/5).

The team, which plays in the Women's Championship, is a part-time setup. The FA Women's League Cup kickoff time was agreed to at the start of the season. Sheffield United's attempts to delay it were turned down by Man City because it had already sold tickets and booked stadium staff (BBC, 12/5).

At least 80 sports coaches have been convicted of child sexual abuse in the U.K. in the two years since the Offside Trust was set up, the body claimed. The organization was set up "by survivors for survivors" after child sexual abuse in football was revealed in '16. According to Offside Trust research -- drawn from media reports -- almost half of the cases involved crimes that have been committed since '06. More than a third of cases have taken place in the last five years (BBC, 12/5).

Disabled ManU fans have called for netting to be put up at Old Trafford to "protect them from missiles hurled by away fans."
