Copa Libertadores Final Expected To Have €25M Impact On Madrid

The Copa Libertadores final in Madrid will have an economic impact of nearly €25M ($28.3M) on the city, a sports marketing expert said, according to the EP. EAE Business School professor Jaime Fortuño calculated the estimated impact of €25M, which "compares to other big matches like the 2017 Champions League final," which had a €51M economic impact in Cardiff. Of the €25M, Fortuño said that 50% will be spent on hotels, while 20% will be spent at restaurants (EP, 12/4). AS reported La Liga President Javier Tebas said that he does not understand why the Copa Libertadores final's move to Madrid "was authorized so easily" while the officials involved in La Liga's proposal to hold a match in Miami "filled the path with obstacles." Tebas: "Not even they understand it. But everyone has their own way of thinking. Sometimes sporting puritanism is used for some occasions but not for others" (AS, 12/4).
