Franchise Notes: Racing Point F1 To Change Name Before '19 Season

Racing Point, the Formula 1 team formally known as Force India, will have another name before the season starts in Australia in March, Team Principal Otmar Szafnauer said on Monday. The words Force India disappeared from the team name after the final race of the '18 seasons, with Racing Point F1 appearing instead on the '19 provisional entry list published last Friday. Szafnauer said that the new team name was "likely to be announced around launch time next year" (REUTERS, 12/3).

McLaren IndyCar partnered with Chevrolet for the 2019 Indianapolis 500, reuniting the two brands after 47 years. Chevrolet will provide McLaren with its 2.2-liter twin turbocharged direct injected V6 IndyCar engines for the team's entry, when two-time Formula 1 champion Fernando Alonso will attempt to secure the Triple Crown of world motorsport (McLaren).

Indian Premier League side Delhi Daredevils was on Tuesday renamed the Delhi Capitals. Co-Owner Parth Jindal said, "Delhi is the power center of the country, it is the capital, therefore the name Delhi Capitals." The team retained the old red and blue color in the new team logo (HINDUSTAN TIMES, 12/4).

Tencent Games announced two esports organizations, SinoDragon Gaming and Victory Five, will join the top League of Legends competition in China, starting in the '19 season. This expands the number of league teams to 16 (THE ESPORTS OBSERVER, 12/1).

Vancouver's expansion Overwatch league esports team will be known as the Titans. The Vancouver Titans will join the Toronto Defiant and six other new teams for '19: Atlanta, Washington, DC, Paris, Chengdu, Guangzhou and Hangzhou. The Titans are owned by the Aquilini Group, owner of the NHL Vancouver Canucks (CP, 12/2).
