Media Notes: ESPN Acquires Latin America, Caribbean Serie A Rights

ESPN signed a deal with IMG for the Latin America and Caribbean rights to Serie A. The three-year agreement between IMG and the Disney-owned network "comes as a shock," with IMG having been unable to find a buyer for the rights over the course of the first third of the season. The financial terms of the deal, which will run through the '20-21 season, were not disclosed (SOCCEREX, 11/28).

German sports broadcaster Sport1 will launch the first esports channel in Germany, Austria and Switzerland on January 24. The 24-hour service will be broadcast as a pay-TV channel on Vodafone Deutschland, Deutsche Telekom, Unitymedia, 1&1, T-Mobile Austria, A1 Telekom, UPC Switzerland and Zattoo. In addition, the content of eSports1 will also be available on its own app (BROADBAND TV NEWS, 11/28).

Turkish satellite TV provider Digiturk acquired the exclusive rights to broadcast the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League in Turkey for the next three years, beginning with the '18-19 season (Digiturk).
