A German court sentenced a German-Russian man to 14 years in prison on Tuesday for detonating a bomb near the Borussia Dortmund team bus in '17 "as part of a money-making scheme which injured one of the club's players." The defendant, identified as SERGEI W., admitted to staging the roadside attack in April '17 but said that he "wanted to make money rather than harm or kill anyone." He was charged with 28 counts of attempted murder, inflicting grievous bodily harm and causing an explosion (REUTERS, 11/27). ... The William Hill Sports Book of the Year Award was shared for the first time as the story of an 11-year-old's "remarkable swim" across the English Channel and a biography of Northern Irish boxer EAMONN MAGEE "divided the spoils" on Tuesday. Former South Korea football int'l JANG HAK-YONG received a lifetime ban from the Korea FA after an attempt to fix a domestic league game. Jang was arrested in September and sentenced to 10 months in jail. After Jang's release, he will be barred from participating in any football-related activities (AP, 11/27).
