ICC Dismisses Pakistan's Claim For $70M In Damages Against BCCI

The Int'l Cricket Council said that the Pakistan Cricket Board's claim for "substantial damages" from the BCCI for India's refusal to play bilateral cricket was dismissed, according to Sudipto Ganguly of REUTERS. The PCB sought damages from the BCCI for not honoring an agreement the two boards signed in '14 to play six bilateral series over eight years from '15-23. According to media reports, the PCB demanded damages of $70M from the "cash-rich" BCCI for India’s refusal to play. BCCI officials maintained that the decision to play Pakistan "depends on the Indian Prime Minister’s office." The ICC said, "Following a three-day hearing and having considered detailed oral and written submissions, the Dispute Panel has dismissed the PCB's claim against the BCCI." Cricket between the "bitter" South Asian neighbors has been "limited because of their longstanding political problems" (REUTERS, 11/20).
