Real Madrid Signs Advisory Agreement With Legends

The redeveloped Santiago Bernabéu will be Real Madrid's "main source of income in the future and those at the club are keen to extract as much as they can from the project," according to Pablo Polo of MARCA. As part of its "attempts to make this project as profitable as possible," the club signed an advisory agreement with Legends, which works on five continents and is a "leader in the market of sporting venues' business lines." Leaders has previously worked with Barcelona, Atlético Madrid, the MLB N.Y. Yankees, NFL Dallas Cowboys, Tottenham and Man City on those clubs' stadiums (MARCA, 11/20).

THE WAIT CONTINUES: ESPN.com's Dermot Corrigan reported Real Madrid is "yet to secure the permits needed to begin work" on its €400M ($455M) renovation of the Bernabéu. Plans for the remodeling, to include a futuristic silver "skin" and extendable roof, were first announced by club President Florentino Pérez in '04. Problems with funding and planning "have meant the project has been put back on several occasions," but Pérez said in May that work "would begin early next year." However, a spokesperson for Madrid's Sustainable Urban Development department said that the club's latest plans "contained issues that needed resolving" (ESPN.com, 11/20).
