Event Notes: GAA President Sees Future For Fenway Hurling Classic

Gaelic Athletic Association President John Horan said that he "sees a future" for the Fenway Hurling Classic "as long it pays for itself" and does not "impact on anything else" GAA is doing. Horan was present at Fenway Park in Boston on Sunday when Limerick "became the third county to win the Super 11s" when it defeated Cork 38-30 in the modified game. The crowd of 12,674 "was down on the attendances from last year" and '15 but Horan "believes the event will continue" (IRISH INDEPENDENT, 11/19).

Floyd Mayweather's match against a Japanese kickboxer "is once again on for New Year's Eve as an exhibition fight with knockouts allowed" but "likely no decision granted on a win or a loss." Nobuyuki Sakakibara, the head of Rizin Fighting Federation, which is putting on the three-round exhibition, said that "a misunderstanding" was behind Mayweather, 41, appearing to back out (AP, 11/17).
