Tottenham's New Stadium May Not Be Ready Until March

Tottenham is expected to provide a stadium update at the start of next month.GETTY IMAGES

Tottenham was warned that it may not be able to play at its new stadium until March "because of continuing issues with the site," according to Matt Hughes of the LONDON TIMES. Contractors on the project are working toward two different opening dates -- the Premier League game against ManU on Jan. 13 and the London derby with Arsenal on March 2 -- with the building companies involved "believing the latter date to be the most realistic." The club confirmed that its next six home games will take place at Wembley, up to and including the visit of Wolverhampton Wanderers on Dec. 29, but has given no indication of its plans beyond that point. The club's next update is expected at the start of next month. Some at Tottenham fear that the builders are "deliberately stringing out the project," with Chair Daniel Levy known to have been "critical of a number of the contractors involved" (LONDON TIMES, 11/17).
