Event Notes: Portugal To Host UEFA Nations League Finals

Portugal will host the inaugural UEFA Nations League finals after qualifying for next June's mini-tournament. The country "got the nod by virtue of finishing top of Group A3 and above Italy and Poland, the other two countries to have expressed an interest." Porto's Estádio do Dragão and the Estádio D. Afonso Henriques in Guimãraes are the proposed venues (BBC, 11/17).

A Women's FA Cup first-round match between city rivals "must be replayed because the pitch was too small." Host Cambridge City won Sunday's game 2-1, but Cambridge United "had a complaint about the dimensions upheld" by the FA Women's Football Board (WFB). Pitches in the Women's FA Cup must be a minimum of 64m wide and 100m long (BBC, 11/15).

Referees at some grassroots football matches "are planning to use the rock, paper, scissors game" at kickoff to "show support" for a suspended official. They "are angry" at the decision to ban David McNamara after he "used the same method in place of a coin toss" (BBC, 11/16).

Jamaica qualified for the Rugby League World Cup for the first time after beating the U.S. in the final of the Americas Championship. The Reggae Warriors became the 11th nation to reach the 16-team 2021 World Cup, to be held in England (BBC, 11/17).

Challengermode and Female Legends collaborated to launch the Women’s Esports League, "which aims to promote a safe environment for female gamers to develop competitively." The spinoff of Challengermode’s National Esports League will begin in '19 and include competition in League of Legends and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, with a season one prize pool of $5,700 (THE ESPORTS OBSERVER, 11/17).
