Russian Anti-Doping Body Worried About Missing WADA Deadline

Yuri Ganus is worried that Moscow authorities will prevent RUSADA from meeting a WADA deadline.GETTY IMAGES

Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) Dir Yuri Ganus is reportedly "worried" that authorities in Moscow will prevent it from meeting a WADA deadline to "stave off a renewed sporting ban," according to Maria Tsvetkova of REUTERS. WADA in September restored RUSADA's accreditation, "in theory paving the way for Russia's readmittance" to major int'l sports events. WADA "stressed" that a failure to allow access to stored urine samples at Moscow's discredited anti-doping laboratory by the end of the year "would lead to a renewed ban." Russian Sports Minister Pavel Kolobkov agreed to the condition, and WADA is due to conduct an audit on Dec. 11-12. Ganus said on Friday that he was "concerned by developments around the access to the Moscow laboratory." RUSADA has no control over the stored urine samples because the federal investigators of Russia's Investigative Committee are "holding them" for its own doping investigation (REUTERS, 11/9).
