Franchise Notes: Liverpool Dismisses Report Team Is For Sale

Liverpool dismissed reports suggesting that owner Fenway Sports Group is looking to sell the club as "unfounded speculation." A story that appeared in the N.Y. Post on Friday claimed that John W. Henry is currently running a "passive sales process" with a view to ending his eight-year stint at the helm. The report alleged that Henry set an asking price "north of $2billion" for the Anfield club. A spokesperson said, "As loathe as we are to give a story of this nature a meaningful response, on behalf of the club's ownership I can completely dismiss this unfounded speculation" (London EVENING STANDARD, 11/9).

The Pakistan Cricket Board terminated its agreement with Pakistan Super League franchise Multan Sultans over "payment issues." Multan Sultans made its debut in the third edition of PSL earlier this year. The PCB said in a statement on Saturday that it terminated the franchise agreement with Schon Properties Broker LLC, the owner of Multan Sultans (PTI, 11/11).

A Force India Formula 1 sponsor said that the Silverstone-based team's budget is tripling for '19. The team "almost collapsed this year" but was rescued by billionaire Canadian fashion mogul Lawrence Stroll. Acronis CEO Sergey Belousov said, "Next year, Force India wants to get into the top three. It's a very strong team. They should actually now be in fourth place. And in 2019, their budget will triple and it will strengthen their position" (GMM, 11/10).
