Football Notes: FA To Appeal Decision Not To Charge Mourinho

The FA will appeal against a decision not to charge ManU Manager José Mourinho "for comments he made after a match." The FA claimed that Mourinho swore in Portuguese to a TV camera as he walked off the pitch following a 3-2 win over Newcastle on Oct. 6. However, ManU "successfully contested the original charge" (BBC, 11/7).

The Professional Footballers' Association of Ireland said that English and Scottish football authorities need to stamp out "anti-Irish racist" abuse by supporters. The PFAI joined the U.K. and Irish branches of charity Show Racism the Red Card in "pleading for more action to be taken against anti-Irish sectarian abuse." The call comes as Republic of Ireland player James McClean and Neil Lennon, the former Northern Ireland midfielder who manages in Scotland, "complained about the level of abuse they face because of their nationalities" (LONDON TIMES, 11/7).

The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) said that it "turned down an offer" from Relevent Sports for the 2019 Spanish Supercup to be played in the U.S., but a source claimed the RFEF approached Relevent first (ESPN.com, 11/7).

The Bundesliga and PP Sports organized a Chinese media visit to Germany and Bundesliga clubs. The visit was aimed at allowing Chinese media to learn more about the German league and its football culture (YUTANG SPORTS, 11/7).

The Korea FA said Wednesday that it "will roll out community service programs for players who are exempt from military service following a case of falsifying records." The KFA said that it will help players who are required to do community service after their military exemption so that it can "prevent wrongdoing regarding national duties" (YONHAP, 11/7).
