Football Notes: RFEF Has Three Int'l Offers For Next Year's Supercopa

The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) reportedly has "three options on the table" to host the next Supercopa in the U.S., China or Qatar. The offer to hold the match in the U.S. is from Relevent. This year's Supercopa took place in Morocco (SPORT, 11/6).

Goal-line technology was voted the "best football innovation of the last 30 years" in a survey of British football fans. A poll of 2,000 supporters voted instant replay as the second-best innovation. Technology that allows referees and their assistants to "stay in contact with each other through microphones came third, followed by undersoil heating." VAR, free-kick vanishing spray and the modern football boot were among the innovations which the survey's respondents said have "improved the game" (London INDEPENDENT, 11/5).

There was "minimal chance" for anyone to survive the helicopter crash outside EPL side Leicester City's stadium in which five people died, an inquest heard. Club Owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha died with four others when the aircraft "came down shortly after a match" on Oct. 27. The inquest was told that "an intense fire stopped anyone getting in or out of the cabin" (BBC, 11/6).

Paris St. Germain challenged UEFA in court after a club finance panel reopened its investigation into the club. The Court of Arbitration for Sport said on Monday that the appeal case is "confidential at the request of PSG and UEFA" and gave no further details. PSG has "long been a target" of UEFA rules designed to "curb so-called financial doping" by wealthy backers of clubs (AP, 11/5).
