Ligue 1 side Monaco Owner Dmitri Rybolovlev was taken into custody and questioned by police at the request of a Monaco judge on Tuesday, “several hours” ahead of the club’s Champions League match against Club Brugge, according to Lhomme & Davet of LE MONDE. The Russian billionaire had his home searched by investigators Tuesday morning and was “still in custody Tuesday afternoon.” He is “at the heart” of a judicial investigation opened by Monaco’s general prosecutor for “corruption,” “trafficking in active and passive influence” and being complicit in these offenses. The case, which involves some of Monaco’s “top judicial authorities,” was responsible for forcing former Monaco Justice Minister Philippe Narmino to resign from his position in ’17 due to his involvement. Narmino was accused of giving Rybolovlev “preferential treatment” following a corruption case involving Swiss art dealer Yves Bouvier. Monaco was recently accused by Football Leaks of having tried to set up a scheme involving offshore accounts to avoid UEFA's financial fair play rules (LE MONDE, 11/6).
