Football Notes: NZF Will Issue Face-To-Face Apology To Football Ferns

Representatives from New Zealand Football will apologize in person to the Football Ferns when the team gathers in Auckland this month. The "face-to-face apology" follows a written version made last month when lawyer Phillipa Muir's review into NZ Football's conduct and culture was released. Muir found former Ferns coach Andreas Heraf engaged in "bullying behaviour" while in charge of the team (STUFF, 11/1).

The FA was "left shocked and considering an appeal" on Wednesday after losing a "landmark disciplinary case" against ManU Manager José Mourinho. It was alleged Mourinho shouted "fodas filhos de puta," which translates as "f--- off sons of b------," into a BT Sport TV camera moments after his side's 3-2 win against Newcastle at Old Trafford on Oct. 6 (London TELEGRAPH, 10/31).

Lifting the 38-year ban on the sale of alcohol at football matches in Scotland is "definitely a conversation worth having," Scottish FA CEO Ian Maxwell said. The Scottish FA, Scottish government and Police Scotland are "considering a pilot using Euro 2020 games at Hampden" (BBC, 10/31).

CONMEBOL will investigate Argentine Primera División side River Plate Manager Marcelo Gallardo for allegedly speaking to his players at the break of a match for which he was suspended. CONMEBOL President Alejandro Dominguez confirmed on Wednesday the body's disciplinary tribunal will "look into a complaint" filed by Brasileiro side Gremio, which was "shocked at home" by a 2-1 River victory in the second leg of the Copa Libertadores semifinal (AP, 11/1).

A collection by Liverpool supporters and the club's foundation has raised almost £60,000 ($78,100) for Sean Cox "as he continues his recovery from a vicious attack by Roma fans." Cox was assaulted by Serie A side AS Roma supporters outside Anfield prior to a Champions League semifinal clash between the clubs in April. He sustained severe head injuries in the attack and "was left unable to sit up or speak unaided," and remains in the hospital (London INDEPENDENT, 11/1).
