Media Notes: Eurosport Acquires French Tennis Rights

Eurosport confirmed it acquired the rights to broadcast 37 ATP tennis tournaments in France over the next five seasons ('19-23). The channel bought the rights to show the Masters 1000 and 500, currently held by beIN Sports. With its new acquisitions, along with its current rights to the Australian Open, the U.S. Open and the French Open (co-broadcasted by France Télévisions), Eurosport has established itself as "France's tennis channel" (L'ÉQUIPE, 10/31).

Canal+ acquired the rights to the Premier League in France from '19-22. The pay-TV operator was the first broadcaster to show the EPL in France, from '97-04. It is "a blow" to current EPL broadcaster RMC Sport as well as TV viewers, "who face a scattering of football TV rights" between Canal+, RMC Sport and beIN Sports. RMC Sports in a statement on Wednesday said that it is "working with Canal+ in the hopes to find a deal" to co-broadcast the league from '19 (LE PARISIEN, 10/31).
