Media Notes: Sky Sports' PGA Tour Coverage Faces Threat

The "threat" to Sky Sports' status as the long-term U.K. broadcaster of the PGA Tour "has been brought into stark focus after the American circuit announced the launch of GOLFTV." If Sky cannot secure the rights, it would be a "big blow." Its current seven-year contract ends in '22 (London TELEGRAPH, 10/22).

Sky Italia acquired rights in Italy to exclusive coverage of the Premier League for another three seasons. The broadcaster's current deal expires at the end of the current campaign. The renewal includes coverage of "at least six games per weekend" and coincides with the introduction of a new evening kickoff slot on Saturdays (SOCCEREX, 10/23).

German public broadcasters ARD and ZDF "will transmit the matches of the German national team at the 2019 World Handball Championship and the 2024 European Handball Championship live." SportA, the joint sports rights agency of ARD and ZDF, reached an agreement with rights holders Lagardère Sports for the World Cup and Infront for the European Championship (BROADBAND TV NEWS, 10/22).
