Names In The News: David Beckham Could Attend Sydney Derby

DAVID BECKHAM "could make an appearance" at the Sydney Cricket Ground for Saturday's Sydney A-League derby -- "provided he can get out of a prior commitment." Beckham is in town for the Invictus Games, but was invited to watch the match by Sydney FC. The problem is it "clashes with the closing ceremony of the Invictus Games" (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 10/22). ... WAYNE ROONEY scored twice as DC United secured a place in the MLS playoffs with a 3-1 win over NYCFC. DC was last in the Eastern Conference when Rooney joined in June (BBC, 10/22). ... Retired justice MIAN HAMID FAROOQ, an independent adjudicator, upheld the 10-year ban on cricketer NASIR JAMSHED but "set aside additional bars placed on him." In August, an anti-corruption tribunal of the Pakistan Cricket Board handed Jamshed a 10-year cricketing ban after he was "found guilty of violating several clauses of PCB's Anti-Corruption Code" (DAWN, 10/22).
