Int'l Cricket Council To Introduce Sexual Conduct Charter

A sexual conduct charter aimed at "cracking down on harassment" will be introduced in time for the women's World Twenty20 next month as the Int'l Cricket Council "reacts to a spate of cases in the sport," according to Nick Hoult of the London TELEGRAPH. The move was approved at a meeting of member board CEOs in Singapore on Saturday and will subject players, officials, coaches and media to "strict rules around safeguarding" after ICC officials were made aware of nine incidents in the past 18 months. It will apply to all future ICC competitions. The charter will cover off-field behavior including harassment, indecent exposure and inappropriate behavior with tournament staff as well as cricket grounds and team hotels. It was brought in after the ICC was "made aware of incidents" including a female team physio being sexually harassed, inappropriate comments by a player to a female journalist, sexual harassment of a female player by a male coach and a player having his contract terminated for inappropriate behavior (TELEGRAPH, 10/20).

DELAYED ACTION: In London, Tom Morgan reported the ICC knew about the "mysterious figure" at the center of an int'l spot-fixing scam for eight years, but launched an appeal for his whereabouts "only two months ago," it was alleged on Thursday. The public appeal for information about Aneel Munawar, an alleged match-fixer from Mumbai, was released in August as broadcaster Al Jazeera finalized a second documentary "alleging corruption in the sport." The new claims, which were broadcast on Sunday, include "images of Munawar with a host of well-named faces," including India captain Virat Kohli. There is "no suggestion of wrongdoing by Kohli." In Sunday's documentary, Al Jazeera claimed ICC investigators were first alerted to Munawar's activities in '10 after an official visited the offices of The Sun to discuss an investigation by the newspaper into cricket corruption (TELEGRAPH, 10/18).
