League Notes: Opening-Night NBA Rosters Feature 108 Int'l Players

The NBA announced 108 int'l players from a record-tying 42 countries and territories are on opening-night rosters for the '18-19 season. This marks the fifth consecutive season that opening-night rosters include at least 100 int'l players and that all 30 teams have at least one int'l player. The most-represented countries are Canada, Australia, France, Spain and Germany, followed by Croatia, Serbia and Turkey. Opening-night rosters feature a record 65 European players (NBA).

Almost half the clubs in the Australian Football League are "potentially involved in a monster multi-player deal." In a "mega deal that is likely to dominate the final day of the trading period" and which was being negotiated on Tuesday, up to eight clubs -- Melbourne, Brisbane, Fremantle, Collingwood, Port Adelaide, Gold Coast, Hawthorn and Greater Western Sydney -- "are part of the proposed blockbuster, which is really a series of contingent trades, in which one part makes another possible" (THE AGE, 10/16).
