Vietnam On Track To Host GP In '20, Formula 1 Race Director Says

Charlie WhitingGETTY IMAGES

Formula 1 Race Dir Charlie Whiting, who visited Hanoi last week, said that plans for a Vietnamese Grand Prix in '20 "look feasible," according to Abhishek Takle of REUTERS. At Sunday's Japanese GP, Whiting said that "the location for a street circuit had been identified" west of the capital and roughly 12km from the city center, "even if building work had yet to start." He said, "It's in the advanced stages of design. As far as I'm aware, they're aiming for a 2020 grand prix, which shouldn't be a problem based on previous experience." Formula One Management has expressed "strong interest" in a race in Vietnam, with Hanoi seen as the sort of "destination city" for which the sport is looking. No signing was confirmed, however, even if there has been "plenty of speculation" that a deal is done (REUTERS, 10,7).
