Event Notes: The Everest, Caufield Guineas To Start An Hour Apart

The Everest and the Caulfield Guineas will be run an hour apart "after leading racing administrators from both NSW and Victoria agreed to allow ample time between the two biggest races Australia-wide on Saturday." A year after the Guineas and the inaugural The Everest were run 15 minutes apart "in a scheduling farce," there will be a "significant gap" between the two this year. The Everest is scheduled to start at 4:15pm at Randwick and the Caulfield Guineas will start at 5:15pm (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 10/8).

Great Britain Hockey will stage two int'l matches at London’s Twickenham Stoop in June. The British men’s and women’s teams will face New Zealand in a doubleheader on an int'l standard field hockey pitch "which will be installed on top of the grass at the 14,800-capacity Stoop," home of Premiership Rugby club Harlequins. The games on June 23 "could attract the biggest crowd" to watch field hockey in England since London 2012 (REUTERS, 10/8).

The IOC selected Senegal to host the fourth Summer Youth Olympic Games in '22. It will be the first Olympic event to take place on the African continent. Senegal's application was based on three sites: Dakar, Diamniadio and Saly (IOC). 

Premier League side West Ham United will host an esports tournament at the London Stadium. The competition was launched with the club’s esports partner, Basset & Gold. It will feature contestants playing EA Sports’ FIFA 19 video game for the chance to win £10,000 ($13,090) in prize money. With a total prize fund of £25,000 ($32,730), the tournament is open to the public (SOCCEREX, 10/8).
