Tottenham Releases Images Of New Pitch, 'World-First' Technology

Tottenham unveiled "world-first" technology which will be used to grow the pitch at its new stadium as it "moves closer to completion," according to Malika Ouzia of the London EVENING STANDARD. The new pitch was laid last week, and images released by the club show the 120-ton "integrated pitch grow lighting system" in operation. Spurs' design, which features 864 individual lights, "is suspended above the pitch from rails at either end of the ground, meaning it never comes into direct contact with the grass." Grow lights are used in most large stadiums where stands and partial roof coverings "restrict the amount of sunlight reaching the pitch," particularly during the winter. However, "most use wheel-on structures, which risk damaging the playing surface." The structure "also features an irrigation system" and provides ground staff with around-the-clock analysis of pitch and growth conditions (EVENING STANDARD, 10/5).
