Las Vegas Police reopened a criminal investigation at the request of a woman who alleged in a civil suit that CRISTIANO RONALDO sexually assaulted her in '09. Last week, attorney LESLIE MARK STOVALL filed a complaint in Clark County District Court alleging that Ronaldo assaulted his client, KATHRYN MAYORGA, in a Las Vegas hotel room on June 13, 2009. Ronaldo dismissed the claims as "fake, fake news" (ESPN.com, 10/2). ... DAVID MANASSEH, the managing director of Stellar -- the agency that represents GARETH BALE, KIERAN TRIPPIER, LUKE SHAW and JORDAN PICKFORD -- was suspended from all activity for three months and fined £50,000 ($64,900) by the FA after "trying to sign an underage player." It was alleged Manasseh entered into a contract with the player before the year of his 16th birthday (BBC, 10/1). ... U.K. Deputy Chief Constable MARK ROBERTS will "lead a review of policing at matches in Scotland." He will look into "operational planning for games, intelligence gathering and resource deployment" (BBC, 10/2).
COURT REJECTS MESSI: Spanish newspaper ABC won its court battle with LIONEL MESSI "over the alleged publication of irregularities in the accounts of the player's foundation." Messi was suing ABC for €202,786 ($234,000) and "will have to pay the costs." The court's ruling can be appealed (AS, 10/2).
