Finance Notes: Sports Direct Dismisses HOF Management

Sports Direct dismissed the former directors and senior management of House of Fraser "just weeks after buying the ailing department store group out of administration." The group said that the decision came "following the collapse of House of Fraser on August 10 2018" (FINANCIAL TIMES, 10/2).

AI platform HEED announced a $35M funding round led by SoftBank Group Int'l. The investment will bolster HEED's expansion as it partners with sports clubs and leagues around the world to create deeper connections with mobile fans. HEED uses AI to identify a game's most exciting moments and IoT-based data analytics to generate new insights and automatically deliver them in near real-time to fans' mobile devices (HEED).

Modern Times Group increased its investment in Turtle Entertainment, the parent company of tournament organizer ESL. MTG "upped its stake" in the company from 74% to 82.48%, paying 152M Swedish krona ($16.9M) to do so. MTG announced plans to split into two separate entities in March (THE ESPORTS OBSERVER, 10/1).
